In 2015, just 42% of people searched for a local business online at least once per month. This falls in comparison to 53% in 2016, highlighting the ever-growing importance of local SEO. Local SEO can be improved in many ways; establishing your trade/business on Google My Business is a great place to start.
What is Google My Business?
As defined by Google themselves: “Google My Business is a free and easy-to-use tool for businesses and organisations to manage their online presence across Google, including Search and Maps. By verifying and editing your business information, you can both help customers to find you and tell them the story of your business”.
In short, Google My Business can be used as the first step to getting your business online. When customers search for your business or businesses like yours, you’ll appear in a list of rankings on Google.
Why is Google My Business important?
Google My Business is ran by Google and of course, Google will always push it’s own services/listings above everybody else’s, no matter how good your website’s SEO might be. If potential customers fail to go beyond the Google My Business listing results and you don’t have a listing, they’ll never be able to find your business.
Benefits of Google My Business
You can add valuable information to your Google My Business listing to make it easier for your customers to understand what you do and what you don’t do. You can add your location and working mile-radius, working hours, gallery images, and much more. Just remember to keep the information up to date.
You can add a link to your website on Google My Business, which can in turn increase website traffic. The more people that click on your website, the higher the website will rank. Of course, this is dependent on a low bounce rate (influenced by the number of people that click on and instantly off a website). That’s why it’s so important to ensure that your Google My Business listing has up to date information and is attracting the right customers.
You can also increase website traffic by creating posts that sit directly on the listing itself. You might create a post with a caption “10% off all boiler services in March” and then provide a link to your website.
We’ve previously highlighted the importance of collecting reviews online and the importance of collecting them in more places than one. Google My Business offers the perfect platform to do exactly that.
You can track the number of people that have contacted you via the Google My Business listing and more importantly, which keywords they used to find your business.
